2/27/18

So doing this out of order, whoops.  I missed yesterday somehow.  I shot our Sycamore tree on Sunday, laying on the ground looking up and this is a 3 image stack to get a good amount of it, especially the bark closest to me in focus.

2/28/18

I captured this little bird in the backyard this past Sunday and thought it made for a good Black and White image.  I believe this is a House Sparrow, one of the fairly common birds around here.  It's coloring and the Trumpet Vine it was sitting in made for good detail in a monochrome image.

Today is the second day of my Black & White Challenge.  We had some icing here the other day, fortunately nothing too bad like power outages.  It made for some nice images though.  I captured this shot of a Pine Cone covered in it and felt it was a good monochrome subject.

2/25/18

I was invited to a Black and White Photography Challenge over on Google + so because my roots in photography are in B&W I decided to take it on.  I used to do my own film and picture processing in that medium.  Things are quite a bit different today with the abilities with digital.  Now it's more about the subject.  I think this one lends itself well to a monochrome look.  This is our train on the High Line of the Durango & Silverton Railway as we headed up to Silverton that I shot from the train.  I like to sit in a rear car for shots like these.

Here is another in my Frozen Bubble Series.  We have warmed up too much to do them this winter and that's actually fine, I am anxious for spring.  I can play with the images I have taken already.  This one is Purple Jewels.
I also added another video that shows a bubble freezing at a slower rate in warmer conditions.  It can be found Here.

I felt like something sunny today after the gloomy day we had yesterday and a lot of today.  These are some sunflowers from my garden this past summer.

2/22/18

I have a day off today due to Icy conditions.  This is an image from a much warmer day in Minnesota this past September.  I took this shot at the Western Minnesota Steam Thresher's reunion.  The newly and beautifully restored Cook Shack was being hauled out to the threshing area by one of the steam traction engines.

2/21/18

I felt like something sunny today on this cold day.  This is a 4 image focus stack of the Barrel Cactus that is in the office at work in bloom this past September.  I just love the blooms of this cactus.  so big and trumpet like.

So we actually got rain but it was icy rain that caused a 2 hour delay.  Weird winter.  I was going through the archives and found this image.  It amazes me that these two trees have such tenacity and seem to be thriving in such a barren area.  I love the color of the water that is from the hot springs in the area as well.

2/19/18

We are heading back into winter so I thought this image was appropriate.  I captured this in December at the in-laws home during a snowfall.  A few Bluebirds and a couple Finches enjoying a drink.  I liked the Bluebird flying in on the left.

2/18/18

I usually share trains today because Sundays are for steam!  :-)  This is a different kind of mist.   A few years back, I had hiked down a lot of stairs into the Canyon of the Yellowstone to get this view of the Lower Falls of the Yellowstone.  I thought it was quite worth it to be able to capture this great rainbow in the mist created from the falls.  The hike back up those 328 stairs, 500 vertical feet was pretty tiring.

2/17/18

A nice warmer day in store here, it's already warmer than yesterday.  Weird weather.  Anyway, I felt like sharing a sunrise today.  This one is from a trip a long time back to Wichita for a conference.  It was a lovely morning sky so I had to stop and get a few shots of which this is one.

2/16/18

After a couple of days of nice warmer weather we are back to sort of normal, though a bit colder than average which should be in the mid 40s.  Only high 30s then back up to 50s.  Crazy bouncy weather.  Anyway, here is a male Cardinal that I captured in the Mulberry tree a few weeks ago.  I was rather proud of this shot.  Very close and I got all details to show well.

2/15/18

I felt like a splash of color today.  We are having an unseasonably warm day, 20 degrees higher than it should be and it is making me anxious for spring.  These are some Gazania flowers from my garden this past year.  I had them planted in a long planter box which I took to work for over the winter and they have been blooming on and off there.

Happy Valentine's Day to those who celebrate.  Happy Hump Day to all.

2/13/18

We are on a warming trend for a few days.  I took this image on a warm day this past June in Minnesota on a day photography trip.  This was taken at the Seven Sisters Prairie near Lake Christina.  This is a 2 shot panorama and I liked it for the lone tree and vivid sky color with the clouds.

2/12/18

Here's a nice summery shot from this past June in Minnesota.  I went out and saw all kinds of waterbirds the first day I was up there.  This is a family of Canada Geese that I captured on one of the ponds in the area I was in.

2/11/18

I decided to post something from an older trip today.  This was from a few years back and a trip to West Virginia.  This is the Durbin Rocket which is a Climax type locomotive known for it's angled cylinders and drive rods.  It was quite fun to see and ride behind.

2/10/18

Here is another in my Freezing Bubble Fun series.  I shot this one last Sunday when we had some snow on the ground and the wind was cooperating.  I don't get the fern type crystals lately and not sure if it is the mix of soap or the temperatures.  I do like these crystals, some are sort of like snowflakes.  Here is a link to a Youtube video I made on one of them freezing:  Freezing Bubble Video

2/9/18

So I found some good photos in the archives this past weekend and this is another.  This is one of the Butterflies that I captured at the Butterfly Pavillion outside of Denver a while back.  I believe this is a Blue Morpho.

2/8/18

I felt like sharing something summery.  I found this image in the archives. I captured this Honey Bee that was enjoying the Autumn Sedum a few years back.  I was surprised I hadn't shared because this is an un-cropped shot, I got pretty close.  😊

2/7/18

Well the snow storm yesterday was quite the bust.  Only got a dusting.  This image is from a much warmer day when I was out at Milford Lake some time back.  I found this image in the archives this weekend and wanted to share it.  This is usually how I see Herons, they are flying away from me or standing very far away.  I loved the clouds in this and the fact that I got the Heron in focus of course.  😌

2/6/18

I felt like a bit of color today.  This is an older image I have never shared from my last trip up to Minneapolis a while back.  It was in the Autumn and this Maple tree in a park by the stone bridge across the Mississippi was just so huge and colorful I had to get a shot.

2/5/18

We had a snow yesterday, got a good 2 inches.  The birds were quite active at the feeders.  The River Birch was a popular hang out for a whole bunch of birds, mostly Finches.  These are 4 female House Finches lined up on a branch.  I felt very sorry for them because you could tell they were cold by the 2 that had their faces tucked under a wing.

2/4/18

I wanted to post a photo of my favorite railroad, the Cumbres & Toltec that travels through Southern Colorado and northern New Mexico.  This is an image of it from the special geology excursion I got to go on a while back.  I decided an antique look would really work well with this image.

2/3/18

We are going to have a nice day today and then winter is back with possible snow for a bit.  This is from a very warm summer day in July as I was headed down to Arizona from Utah through Monument Valley.  It was a clear but hazy day due to the fires to the west and south I believe.  I had to do a lot of work in a couple of photo programs to bring out the background here but I liked the result with the framing of the rocks in the foreground.

2/2/18

So the Groundhog saw his shadow and 6 more weeks of winter.  I didn't need the Groundhog to tell me that.  I felt like a summer shot so here are some lovely Poppies I shot in Silverton Colorado shortly after I got off the train and was headed to take photos of the trains just outside of town.  I am hoping the Poppies I planted last year survive this winter and bloom.  I love Poppies, they have a lot of character in a photo.

2/1/18

Well we made it to February and winter is back for a while.  I'm sharing an image today of the only reason I have enjoyed winter this year, frozen bubbles.  This one I named *Crystal Bubble*, I'm so imaginative, huh.  😉  Anyway, I have shared this one at my Fine Art America site and received a Feature for a week in a Macro Group so I was pretty proud  of that.
