It's a double digit day today! 😃 Today's image is one I was able to get in Florida. This is a Great Blue Heron. This bird was relatively close to me and unbothered by my presence, unlike here in Kansas where I can't seem to get within a quarter mile of them most times. There is also another bird in this picture, I believe it's a female Mallard but could be mistaken.

I was going through the archives recently and found this image that I took on one of my trips to Minnesota and never shared. I was able to use some new processing techniques to it and came up with an image that I was really happy with of a pair of Loons. These are elusive and lovely birds that I have been able to see a couple of times when I have visited Minnesota.

Yikes, this week has been crazy busy and I almost forgot that I did not finish pre-posting this week. This is the very first picture of the big pond that I have been walking to now and then. There were a bunch of ducks and this is the typical shot I get of wildlife I see, them trying to get the heck away from me! I liked the light on them and the splashes.

It is bitter cold here, it was only 2 F or -17 C when I got up this morning around 8. I got to sleep in because we got the day off due to the cold. Yay. I took the image I am sharing today on a much warmer day in December. It was fairly cold relatively then but nothing like today. The Canada Geese were headed south over my house and crossing a vapor trail.

Happy first day of October! September seemed to last forever. My image today is a close up of the Great Egret I was able to capture this past August. This is not cropped at all, it was that close, I was in a vehicle at the time. I love the yellow eye. It was such a neat experience to be able to photograph it and not have it fly away.

So this week is going to be birds, except for tomorrow which is always Steamy Sunday. 😃 I am hosting the Bird Poker game on Google Plus again. I chose an easy theme of favorites. This one I was very happy with because I don't see Swans very often, I have never seen a wild bird on a nest and it was a pretty good capture. I was able to shoot this Swan on it's nest this past June in Minnesota.

I captured this shot on my trip to Minnesota over the Labor Day weekend. I was trying to capture a Heron on the ground but it took off, they are always so skittish. Fortunately I was fairly ready for this and able to capture my best flight capture of one of these so far. This is a Great Blue Heron.

So we got a bit more rain today. Wish it was more but every little bit helps. I have a new pond to fill up and it is going VERY slowly. Anyway, my image today is of some Pelicans I captured in flight at the lake in Alexandria Minnesota this past summer.

I captured this Canadian Geese family on the lake at Alexandria, Minnesota this past summer. I loved the look of the one young Gosling with the head tilt.

Here's a nice summery shot from this past June in Minnesota. I went out and saw all kinds of waterbirds the first day I was up there. This is a family of Canada Geese that I captured on one of the ponds in the area I was in.

Well the snow storm yesterday was quite the bust. Only got a dusting. This image is from a much warmer day when I was out at Milford Lake some time back. I found this image in the archives this weekend and wanted to share it. This is usually how I see Herons, they are flying away from me or standing very far away. I loved the clouds in this and the fact that I got the Heron in focus of course. 😌

I was able to capture this image in Pennsylvania over the Thanksgiving week. This was the second time I had ever seen a Hooded Merganser duck and both times were there. I captured it as it took off when it decided I was too close. I liked the out of focus, unfortunately, splash it left behind but I was trying to get the bird in focus so that was good.

This is an image I took in Minnesota earlier this year. It is a Loon on one of the many lakes there at sunset. This image is a favorite of mine even though the Loon is not close. The whole image just says peaceful or tranquil to me.

This is an image I captured a while back out at Milford Lake in the Milford town area. Herons are very camera shy it seems in Kansas. they are not good about posing, if I want to see one close up I have to travel, ours just fly away. I love how their legs hang out behind as they fly, neat birds.

What lovely weather we have been having the last couple days. Yesterday was almost too cool. Nice to be out of that blazing heat for a bit. My image today is one I captured on a photo trip in Alexandria, Minnesota a couple weeks ago. This is a Mallard couple next to shore in the lake there.

I was able to view a large number of Geese families the other day. Usually there are no birds on this particular pond but this day there were at least 8 families of Geese floating around, I think more. This is a shot of 2 of them.

When I was out in Pennsylvania in March, I was walking by the creek that runs by my dad's house. This Great Blue Heron suddenly took off and was flying by and I was pleased to capture it in focus and so close. I always love how their long legs hang out behind them as they fly.

I captured this image out by Milford Lake at the big pond out there which is called The Gathering Pond, I have been told. It does seem to be a gathering place for different types of birds. I usually see some type of waterbird whenever I visit there. This Pelican was typical of ones I see though, not usually happy with me around taking their photo. He was swimming away and looking over his shoulder to be sure I wasn't following.

I took this image this past summer in Michigan. I saw several types of waterbirds this particular evening on the shore of Lake Erie. I captured this Canada Goose out for a swim and I liked the light and bit of reflection in the water.

Another bitterly cold morning but things are supposed to get a bit better. This image was taken on a nice warm day in July. This is another image of the Egret that I was able to get fairly close to in Michigan. It was just walking along and looking for fish. At one point some fireworks in the distance, it was 4th of July, spooked it and it took off but didn't go far down the river. It was nice to see one close and not so spooked as ones here in Kansas can be if you get anywhere near them.
