This winter we have had some bitterly cold temperatures, at 0F and below even. On one of those mornings while it was still dark out as I was getting ready for work, I noticed these crystals on one of the storm doors so had to quick take a few photos. I just love the fern-like patterns they make as they spread across the glass. They remind me of an abstract painting as well.

Happy first day of February! The year is really moving along which is nice because I am tired of the cold and snow. The snow hasn't even been good for snowflake photos which has been horribly disappointing. It has been pretty good for ice crystal images of the storm doors though. This is one I took on a cold morning on the west side of the house when the sun had not melted it off yet. I love the fern-like patterns the ice makes on the glass.

We are hitting highs lately around 80 degrees. Way too warm for this early. I have a feeling this summer will be a hot one, we have not had a very hot one for a while and are probably due. Sigh. Hopefully it won't be totally dry too. Anyway, I still have snowflakes to share from a couple of late snows we had that produced some lovely flakes. This one looks a little warped because of the way it was laying and because the top was somewhat broken but I liked the colors in it a lot. This is from 14 images focus stacked together.

It's spring officially now but I still have some snowflake images to share. I have been working on processing some good ones I got this winter. This one is a 10 image focus stack. I found it rather unique with all the open space in the center. I loved the little baby one stuck to it as well.

We are starting to feel like spring these days with highs most days in the 50s. I still have some snowflakes to share though. This one is an 18 image stack which until last week's share was my highest at producing a good flake. I was quite pleased with this one as well. It turned out pretty sharp.

I am pleased with some of the snowflakes I was able to capture this winter. It happened pretty late in the winter because we didn't have any snow at first and then what we were getting was pretty crappy and broken. This image is my most amount of focus stacked images to date that produced a very good result in my opinion. This was a 20 image focus stack. I usually take at least this many images of a flake and actually more but some of them are too blurry to use.

Today's image is of a lovely snowflake I was able to capture last month. This is an 18 image Focus Stack. I loved this one as I think I managed to get it all in focus for once. 😁

It's March! The year seems to be going fairly quickly, Spring will be here soon. Just 2 weeks ago we had very cold temps and snow, seems so long ago in a way. I captured this group in a 21 image focus stack during that bitter cold snap.

Last week we finally had a really good snow with clear and beautiful flakes. I was able to capture some like this group. I liked how even the one at the edge of the photo turned out in focus and was rather nice looking so I left it in. This is a 23 image focus stack but if you look closely, even that wasn't enough as I missed a bit. Ah well.

We finally had a decent snow that produced some beautiful clear crystals. This is the most colorful snowflake I have ever captured, there were even some oranges in it. I believe it was due to the angle it was sitting at, the colors come from how it reflects the light I use. I use a ring flash that I set to "Constant On" while shooting the flake. This is a 16 image focus stack.

We are still quite cold and supposed to be even colder than earlier in the week so TGIF, I can hibernate for the next 2 days. This is another image I got the day we had some rare fog and Hoar Frost. I captured this Sumac seed head with frost over it. It had some nice bokeh in the image as well so I had to share it today because Friday's Are Bokehlicious!

Today's image is another that I was able to capture on my car. I am still surprised by the look of the paint in macro. I like the Rime covered ends and clear center of this one. I like the little one clinging to it as well.

We are under quite the cold snap right now. It started on the weekend as I write this and today was supposed to be pretty bitter with a low of 1 F or -17 C. Yuck. On the first day of the month we had a rare event of fog which produced some lovely Hoar Frost. It was as thick as it would have liked but it was still quite lovely. I captured this image on an evergreen branch.

I usually share something landscape related on Saturdays but I have several fairly good results of snowflake images so I thought I would share another of those. I am sure you all don't want to look at snowflakes in the summer. 😉 Although maybe that would be cooling. Anyway, this was a beautiful group I was able to capture. I caught this one on the usual black scarf I use.

We finally got some worthwhile snow last week. It had a lot of Rime but the shapes were defined as opposed to the broken up or shard looking stuff we had been getting. I took this image on my car. I am not totally thrilled because the sparkles in the paint that you don't really notice when looking at the car normally really get defined in macro. The flakes were lovely though. 😀

Well, today's image is some patterns provided by nature. On a very cold day this past winter, not so long ago, there were beautiful ice patterns created on the storm door of the house. They reminded me of a river of ferns.
