We have had so much snow this winter compared to other years, it's been crazy.  With what we received this past week we are up over 20 inches total now.  Most of it has been icy or tiny broken pieces but we had one very small flurry where it was producing some lovely flakes.  This is one of them.  This is a 5 stack image.  I use Affinity Photo to stack and process the image.

It's been warm lately so spring is on the way.  I can share snowflakes and not feel cold.  This one is another 9 image stack that I captured on a very cold day in January.  I loved the tiny little snowflake that attached on the upper right like a jewel to the bigger flake.  I also left the little one that was developing off to the left which reminded of a jewel as well.

Today's image is another snowflake I was able to capture in mid January.  I loved the design of this one and I included a fragment of another that was off to the side.  I got lucky with a few flakes not being broken up due to the wind.  This is a 9 image stack.

Today I am sharing a snowflake that I was able to catch in our snow in January when it was very cold and windy.  This a very neat one I think.  It is, at least, 2, if not 3, snowflakes stuck together.  It is only 9 images stacked but I was able to get it all in focus so I was happy with that as well.

It's February!  January seemed like quite the loooong month with all the cold and snow.  Now that we have gone the opposite way and are unseasonably warm, 65F for a high, I am going to share a snowflake photo.  😁  I took this one during a snow in the middle of January when it around 10 degrees F out.  It was windy that day so I only lucked out in capturing some flakes for a short time.  This one is more unusual as it doesn't have many protrusions from the "arms" they are just more like bars and it is just very plain looking.  I found it rather interesting.  It is 9 images stacked for focus.

Happy Monday and happy new week!  Today's image is one more that I was able to capture and process from a snow we had in November.  This one had a lovely center and rime covered extensions.  It is 8 images stacked for focus.

Happy Monday and new week!  It's Martin Luther King Day here in the US and a holiday for a lot of people, myself included.  We are hopefully on the last day of our bitter cold snap.  Today is only supposed to be a high of 4F.  UGH.  The snow we have gotten the past few days has not even been good because when it was cold enough, then it was windy and broke it up.  😞  My image for today is another I captured back in November.  This one was clear of rime and is a 15 image stack.

Today's image is another snowflake that I was able to capture near the end of November.  This is a 5 image stack where I was able to get it all in focus.  You can see some of the rime that was affecting a lot of the flakes during this snow.  We don't often get the very cold weather and snow at the same time needed for the really nice, clean flakes.  When it is warmer they pick up the little pieces of ice as they form.  It provides interest to them at times I think when there is not too much covering them to block out the beautiful details.

The day after Christmas it snowed again.  It was fairly warm out so depending on where the flakes landed they were melting pretty quickly.  Usually I stack several images for focus.  These flakes were melting too quickly for that and fortunately I was able to get most of them in focus in just one shot.

This is another of the snowflakes I captured during our first snowfall of the season.  This one shows off a bit how most of them weren't great as they had a good amount of rime on them.  This one has it on the outer branches so that they kind of look to be coated in sugar.  This is a focus stack of 8 images.  There was a small chip off to the left edge that never formed any branches or could be a bit of a branch that broke off.

So today I am sharing another of the snowflakes I was able to capture during our day of snow where we actually got almost 7 inches!  The most we have received at one time since 2014!  Anyway, these 2 fell fairly close together so this is a 16 image focus stack of which I could have used a few more.  Ah well.

We had a snow last weekend that was the most snow we have had at one time for quite some time and was quite a surprise due to it coming in November.  We ended up with almost 7 inches of it.  Most was kind of crappy and broken or rimey but I did get to capture a few that were nice.  This is one that I processed out of 4 images that turned out fairly well even though it had a bunch of rime on it.

Happy Monday!  This is one more of the snowflakes that I captured in late February.  I was very pleased with how this one turned out.  This was a 12 image stack for focus.  I liked the bits of color in the lower branches especially the lower right orange flash of color.

Happy Monday!  Really hoping we are done with winter but here is another snowflake image I was able to capture in late February.  This one was 22 images stacked together for focus.  I was shooting at F 4.5 with a shutter speed of 1/200.  This flake had some pieces stuck to it which is part of the reason it needed a good amount of images to bring it into focus.

Happy Monday!  Hopefully we are done with snow now but I did have another opportunity to photograph some flakes this winter.  I captured these two flakes on the back window of my car.  I liked the faint reflection off to the left side of each flake due to photographing them on glass.  This is a focus stack of 17 images.

Happy Monday!  I thought I would share another snowflake image that I was able to capture the day after Christmas.  I liked that it was 2 different, pretty complete snowflakes stuck together.  This is a 14 image focus stack.

January is flying by and today is a double digit day!  😁  Happy Monday as well.  I thought I would share another of the snowflakes I captured on the day after this past Christmas while I was in Missouri.  The flakes started out with a nice shape but rather rhimey or sleety.  They became cleaner near the end.  I was able to get a few fairly good ones of which this is the second.  It is a focus stack of 16 images.  At the top left and then straight across on the opposite branch, each branch has smaller flakes and bits of flakes stuck to it.

Happy Monday!  It's a holiday, Martin Luther King Day here in the US.  The day after Christmas, when I was in Missouri it snowed a bit.  Because it was so cold as well the flakes formed really well and I was able to capture some.  The background I was able to take the photos on was not as dark as I would have liked so it took me a while to get this one ready to share.  This is a stack of 11 images.

I know it is spring but I had to share one more snowflake.  I processed this one the other day and really liked how it turned out and didn't want to wait till next winter.  😁  This is made from 27 shots, focus stacked and it was shot on March 10.

So today is my day of the year so I am posting one of my favorite things to photograph.  I don't get to photograph these often and they are quite challenging to do correctly.  I still have a way to go to get them like my inspiration, Don Komarechka, but I think I am improving all the time.  This is an 18 image focus stack of a Snowflake I captured in late February.  I thought it turned out really well and is another that had at least 2 snowflakes growing together plus bits of sleet it looked like.
