 It's a double digit day today!  😁 My Amaryllis was very prolific this year and also rather photogenic.  I decided to try a monochrome version of it and I was happy with how it turned out even though, for various reasons, it took me way longer to create this than it should have.  LOL  Anyway, I think the result was worthwhile.

 This is another image that I decided to give a B&W treatment to that I liked how it turned out.  This is one of my Cosmos flowers photographed from the back of it and the B&W gives it an almost negative type effect I thought.

 My roots in photography are in Black & White.  I used to develop my own film and everything back in the day.  It was fun.  Every now and then I get in a B&W mood and look for some good subjects.  I found one in the Morning Glory that I think turned out really well with a B&W treatment.

 It's Steamy Sunday here on the Blog!  It's also Father's Day so hope all the father's out there have a great day.  Today's image is another archive shot and a rare monochrome one from me.  I think it works really well for steam train images, it gives them a more vintage look.  This is the steam train at the Grand Canyon that I was able to ride a few years ago.

 It's Steamy Sunday here on the Blog!  Dipping back in the archives today to my first trip to the Grand Canyon several years ago.  Trains work well as Black & White images I think and I like to get back to my roots in photography now and then so here you go.  An image of the steam locomotive that pulled our train out to the Canyon and back to Williams Arizona.

 I don't play in B&W very often but I love it a lot but I also think that others don't appreciate it as much.  I love how the shadows and detail work in a B&W image as compared to color at times.  I played some more with the Poinsettia image that I shared a couple of weeks ago and I like how it showed off the detail in the leaves so well.

 We had a rainy end of July and then August started out cool and a bit humid and that really made the mushrooms pop up around the area.  I think mushrooms lend themselves well to a monochrome treatment to really bring out the detail in them.  I finally found out what these type are as well, they are Green Spored Lepiota mushrooms.  This is a 2 image focus stack to get all of them in focus.

Since winter is, hopefully about over, I will share this image I took that I was originally going to use for my B&W project.  These are some more of the icicles that had formed off the roof a while back.  In B&W the textures seem to stand out more and the sunlight off them as well.

I am doing a B&W challenge with a group of people.  The last theme I had to do an image for was for "Cold".  This is what i came up with and I rather liked it so thought I would share it here.  This is a shot of the ice growing over the waterfall on my backyard pond.  I like the patterns in the ice and I thought the image looked great in B&W.

I took this image back in June at Rollag during Steam School.  I actually shot this with my phone and am pretty impressed by the quality it gets.  I have a Google Pixel 3XL and it is great for when I am not able to have my actual camera with me.  I took a couple of items out of the photo which were newer looking and then converted it to B&W and I thought it made for a rather timeless image.

Posting a little later than I have been lately today.  I wasn't able to set this one to go yesterday.  Overnight we received a significant amount of rain for the first time in a while.  We got 2.2 inches.  I could hear it pouring.  So my pond should be nice and full today even without having to supplement water.
My image for today is another vintage but a bit closer up look at the newly restored Union pacific Big Boy 4014 that I was able to see in operation in Nebraska.

Well, we got the rain we were promised.  Have good chances for Tuesday as well so hope we get some more.  My pond is looking pretty good again right now but could use a bit more.  
For today's image I went back to my Black & White roots with a subject I really thought worked well in it.  I had this flower several years ago and then never found it again until this year.  It's a type of Osteospermum called an African Daisy or Spoon Flower due to the petal shape.  This is a white variety bloom of them.

Every now and then I like to get back to my roots in photography of black and white.  Steam trains make for great subjects as I think it creates a very timeless image.  This is the Cumbres & Toltec train as it was heading out of Chama New Mexico towards Antonito Colorado on a warm day in late May this past spring.

It feels like spring out lately.  I like it but worry that it is not good for the plants and my Daffodils that think it is spring and are coming up already.  I took this image on a day like we have been having several years ago out in San Francisco California, a place I would love to revisit.  I went to see the Pacific Ocean and then walked along the coast past the Golden Gate Bridge, the subject of this photo, to the piers and saw Sea Lions there.  My feet were tired by the end, it was several miles I walked that day.  I gave this a B&W treatment to make it appear like a vintage photo and never shared it so here you go.

A nice warm and beautiful day today.  I enjoy working in monochrome at times because my photography roots are in Black & White with the classes I took early on learning how to photograph better and develop my own prints.  I look for subjects that work well with a monochrome treatment.  I thought this one was a good example.  This is a macro image of a Clematis bloom from my neighbor's plant.

Every now and then I like to get back to my roots of Black & White photography.  I thought this image was a good one to do that with.  This was at our lunch stop on the Cumbres & Toltec at Osier Colorado.  The train from Antonito heading to Chama had pulled in and I was photographing it.  You can see an old cattle pen off to the side.

I grew some Teasels in my garden.  I find the flowers on them interesting and they draw bees and butterflies.  I find that after the blooms have faded and they dry they are even more interesting.  I shot this with the sunlight really back lighting this dried one and it really shows off the details.  I also liked the muted colors of the image.

Every now and then I like to get back to my roots in Black & White Photography.  With the tinting on this one, it's more a monochrome work.  I thought this Marigold from my garden really lent itself well to this treatment and it made the details in it really pop.

I have some Marigolds that are growing in a garden on the new land.  They must have been part of a seed mix as I did not specifically plant them but they are doing quite well with very little attention from me. I like to get back to my monochrome roots at times and I thought this bloom lent itself to that treatment well with it's lines.

With the good amount of rain we got the other day, it made the mushrooms quite happy and they are popping up everywhere.  I captured these in my backyard and thought they reminded me of a family, dad mom and kid.  I titled this one Shroom Family Outing.  😀
