12/31/23

It's the last Steamy Sunday of 2023!  What an interesting date to end the year on as well.  Happy New Year's Eve everyone!  Hope next year will be better than this one for all of us.  Today's image is a composite one.  The locomotive wasn't even taken in the evening and the fireworks are from the last time I was able to see and photograph some which was a couple of years ago now.  Hope you enjoy it.

Today's image is actually a composite.  I shot the image of my Bee Balm flower earlier this summer but found it somewhat uninteresting.  Then, this is another bee in flight images I got that had a very boring background so I decided to put them together into a more all around interesting image, to me anyway.  Another reason to not trust what you see on the internet these days.  😉

A week ago, on the night of the Winter Solstice, there was the "Great Conjunction" of Saturn and Jupiter.  While it was neat, I think the hype was a bit over rated.  Supposedly they were supposed to be so close it would look like they were touching.  Maybe at some point it did look like that, but that is not what I got to see.  This image is a composite, both were taken on the 21st but they were too far apart to get in a single frame so I took the liberty of moving them closer together. 😉  The moon was one image and the planets were the second, Jupiter is on the left, Saturn is dimmer.  If you have seen any images of the conjunction on the internet where you see the rings of Saturn, those are fake.

I don't normally post 2 of the same subject in a week but this is an event that's going on right now and you will be running out of chances to see it.  Comet Neowise is making it's way out of the solar system and won't be seen again in many lifetimes.  You will probably need binoculars to find it if you are looking for it now because each night as it moves away it becomes dimmer.  This is actually a composite image.  I wanted this look of Milford lake and the comet together but as you could see in Monday's photo, realistically that wasn't possible.  Many images you see on the internet of it where is looks pretty big in comparison to a foreground object are most likely a composite.  Milford Lake was shot at 18mm wide angle and the Comet was done at 48mm.  Both images were made at 6 seconds long.

I was playing around this weekend with some photos and I came up with this and was pleased with how it turned out.  A composite image of a rose and frozen bubble.

Happy Independence Day everyone here in the US!  This is a composite image from the fireworks show I watched in Wamego Kansas last year.  They put on quite the spectacular show.

This image is actually a manipulation.  It's a composite of 2 images that I took and put together.  I put the Hummingbird together with the Hibiscus flower and thought it worked rather well.

So this past week, everyone was talking about the "Supermoon".  To us normal people you can't really tell any difference.  It was only about 15% larger appearing.  If you saw images where it looked really big they were because they were faked, like mine today.  I tried to make mine more realistic and like a scene I had actually seen 2 days before but missed getting a shot of because I was not prepared, I am a bad photographer in that way.  I shot the photos used in this image on the same day.  The moon I shot as it was setting in the morning and then the prairie is a 3 image panorama shot in the late afternoon.  I love the light at this time of day on the prairie grass as it makes the color so vivid.  The moon is a bit larger presented here than it actually was as well.  :-)  Best viewed large, of course, by clicking on it.

Another warm one today.  I'll be glad when these 90s are done.  My image for today is a bit of a cheat.  I was photographing bees the other day and was disappointed that my clearest one in flight was partly off the photo.  I liked the photo I got of the one coming towards the flowers though it was a bit out of focus so I moved the partial bee into this image.  I titled this one, Incoming.  :-)  I don't feel that bad about putting them together as I did shoot both of them, just not in the same frame.  :-)

I created this a while back with some irises that were in bloom in the yard.  This is a photo manipulation from 2 different photos put together and then a black background was added.

This is a composite photo.  I don't do many of these but sometimes I like to play and this one turned out fairly well so decided to share.  On a walk this week I took some shots of the weird cloud formations that were the forefront of our wacky weather.  Then on the way back I got the best Red Tail hawk in flight shot I have ever gotten but it was against a plain dreary sky.  I decided to put the two together and this is the result.
