 It's Friday, TGIF!  Friday's Are Bokehlicious as well so I have this image for you today.  This is a Painted Beauty Butterfly I captured recently on my Salvia with the grass behind creating some lovely creamy bokeh.

 TGIF!  Happy Friday!  The Aster's are about done for the year as well and they were really a butterfly magnet for me.  I was able to capture this Painted Beauty that was enjoying them along with a bonus Skipper.  There was some lovely bokeh behind created by some drying out flowers and so this was a good photo for today because Friday's Are Bokehlicious!

I have some miniature Allium plants growing in my Garden Railway.  Alliums are an ornamental Onion and come in many varieties.  I like the size of these for the railroad.  The butterflies were enjoying them as well as you can see in this image here.  This is a Painted Beauty Butterfly, which have been very abundant in my gardens this summer, that I was able to capture enjoying some of the blooms.  Remember that I have a guide for commonly seen butterflies that can be found here in Kansas to help you ID them.  There is a link at the top of the page.

The Painted Lady and Painted Beauty Butterflies have been enjoying my flowers in fairly large numbers.  It's been very cool to see.  I have a large bunch of volunteer Zinnias growing in the backyard and they are a great draw for these butterflies.  I was trying to photograph this Painted Beauty on the Zinnia flower but it took off as I took the shot so not in perfect focus due to the movement but I thought it was still a cool shot.

Happy Earth Day!  Hope you will take some time today to think about the earth and life on it and how you can help to make it better.  It's just about planting season in many parts of the US, so as you think about what to plant you can get plants that will help butterflies.  Plants native to your area are best.  Annuals like Zinnias that you can plant from seed fairly inexpensively are a great choice.  You can see in my image for today that the butterflies do indeed enjoy it and because they are long lasting, are a source of food for them when everything else has finished blooming.  I captured this Painted Beauty on the Zinnia blooms late last autumn.

So I felt like sharing something bright and cheerful and I haven't shared a butterfly in a while so here's one.  This is a Painted Beauty that was visiting the Butterfly Bush which is also known as a Buddleia or Buddleja Bush.  I'm looking forward to summer and views like this.

Well, we got a bit of snow and even more cold weather.  I am not fond of winter at all.  I am dreaming of warmer weather and I found an image to warm me up.  This is a Painted Lady on the Zinnias in my garden from this past year.

Another really cold day and winter is not officially here.  This is from much warmer days when the butterflies were coming to visit.  I captured this shot of a Painted Beauty on the Autumn Sedum with another out of focus in the background creating some lovely bokeh.

Some nice weather for the foreseeable future.  Hope that groundhog was right and we get an early spring and not a late winter. Anyway, I felt like a butterfly today.  I captured this a while back, has to be quite a while back because I did not plant Zinnias this past year.  Won't make that mistake again.  Butterflies like this Painted Beauty seem to quite enjoy them.
