It's Friday, TGIF!  While in Minnesota a couple weeks ago, I was able to capture this Redwing Blackbird as it sat beside a pond.  The water and Cottonwood fluff made for interesting bokeh behind it so I had to share today because Friday's Are Bokehlicious!

Today's image is another I was able to capture when the Redwing Blackbirds were chasing the Redtail Hawk near Milford Lake.  I am guessing the hawk got too close to their nest.  Still very fun to see such a big bird being chased by a small one.

Recently while on a bike ride out by Milford Lake I saw this sight.  There were two Redwing Blackbirds chasing a Red Hawk.  I always have to laugh when such small birds are actually successful in chasing a big hawk away.  I'm guessing it got too close to their nest.

When I was in Minnesota I went for my usual drive to the spots where I can find wildlife fairly reliably.  Sure enough, the Redwing Blackbirds were out and about.  I captured this one sitting in a plant and calling and showing off why they received their name.  😄

Today's image goes back to earlier this year and my visit to the Baker Wetlands in Lawrence.  This is a Redwing Blackbird that was posing quite nicely for me.

When I am in Minnesota, I usually get to observe and captured Redwing Blackbirds.  This year was a good one for females.  I captured this one in the reeds on the edge of a pond near where we were camping.

I have been able to view more birds that I don't usually get to see much this year.  With the large pond I found there are Red-wing Blackbirds there and this one let me get fairly close to it.  I was able to get this capture of it calling to other ones but I like how it looks like it is yelling at me.  Maybe it was.

I have had a lot of chances to get some interesting bird images this year.  At the large pond near where I live I have been able to observe ducks and Redwing Blackbirds.  This is one I was able to capture as it took off from a reed when it thought I was too close. It really showed off it's wing accents and why it is named as it is.

Taking a break from the sunsets I have been sharing on Saturdays to share another bird image i was able to get recently.  The Red-wing Blackbirds were by the large pond I walk to at times and they were calling to each other.  I had never noticed before but when they make their distinctive call, they puff their feathers out so you can see the red patches more clearly.  I was able to capture that moment here.

There is a spot in Minnesota that is usually a good one for spotting Redwing Blackbirds and it did not disappoint this year.  I captured this one in the reeds as it was calling out to others.

A bit of rain yesterday and a nice cool morning today, very nice after the heat we had been having but it is coming back for a day tomorrow.  Sigh.  This is from cool days in June when I was in Minnesota.  This Red-wing Blackbird was flying from pad to pad to eat something out of these Lily flowers.  I am not sure if it was nectar from the flower or insects inside that it was after but I enjoyed watching and photographing it.  I had seen this type of behavior once before a couple of years ago, but still don't know what it's after.

I captured this image in Minnesota a couple of weeks ago now.  I had never seen this behavior for a Redwing Blackbird.  It was hoping around on Lily pads and sticking it's beak into the flowers.  I'm not sure of it was trying to eat the flowers or if there were insects inside it was trying to eat or what.  It was rather interesting to watch though.

I found this older shot for today while looking for something else.  I had been photographing this Redwing Blackbird while it was perched on a Cattail when it decided it had enough of that and took off.  I was fortunate enough to capture it in flight and in focus!  ðŸ˜€ I got this image in Minnesota.  There are a couple of spots there where I seem to always be able to find them.

I had forgotten about this image I shot back in June when I was in Minnesota.  I was looking for something else the other day and found it.  Not sure how I forgot as it was one of the best ever shots I had taken of a Redwing Blackbird.  It was sitting and posing very nicely on some dried Cattails in a marsh area of a pond and I was able to get several shots of it.  I am heading back up to the area soon so thought it was appropriate to post today for that reason as well.

When I was in Minnesota a while back I went out looking for wildlife one day.  I spotted this male Redwing Blackbird in the reeds by a pond and stopped to get a photo.  He was not too happy about that and took off from his perch but I was able to get a clear shot of him as he did.  I like the bow shape his red markings made in this position.

I took this image in Minnesota, last spring I think.  It's a female Redwing Blackbird in the reeds of a marshy area by a pond.  Amazing how they look nothing like the males or like their name.  No red wing, no black.  :-)

10/1/13

Wow, it's October already!  Where has the time gone?  Pretty soon winter will be here and the cold and blah.  Well, enough of that.  This is a male Redwing blackbird that I was able to photograph in Minnesota this June at a nature center in the reeds by a pond.  He was sitting there calling, most likely to the female who was also around.  It's about the closest I have ever gotten to one, they are very skittish birds.
