I shot this image last May and never shared it. I am getting tired of winter and looking forward to green and other colors than just blah brown. This is the Geary State Fishing Lake Falls just south of where I live. We had a lot of spring rain and it made it flow quite nicely.

I went to the waterfall at the Geary State Fishing Lake yesterday with a friend who had never seen it before. It was a good time, people were accommodating and friendly and the water was not too high to enjoy. The last time I had been there it was flowing so heavy it was hard to really see and photograph it well. This is what it looked like yesterday.

Posting late today because I was out doing some steamy stuff in this early summer heat. 91 F in mid May. Sigh This is a sunset from late last summer of the State Lake near me.

Eek, there are only 9 days till Christmas! I am not ready. My image today is one from this spring when we used to get rain. I had been photographing the waterfall at the Geary State Fishing Lake and was on my way back to the car when I stopped to take this shot. The Redbuds were in full bloom as you can see from the one in the foreground which added a nice pop of color. The moon is visible as well.

I hadn't gone out to shoot a sunset for a while. I had some time last night and with the clouds in the sky I felt I had a shot at getting a decent one and I was not disappointed. This is the sunset over Geary State Lake, south of Junction City, last night.

Posting quite late today as I was out all day. It's already July. Since we have had a bit of rain lately it reminded me of Spring when the waterfall was flowing at the Geary State Fishing Lake. This is a regular exposure shot and not my usual long one. Still looks quite nice I thought.

So it was a bit frosty this morning. I am hoping my plants survived it OK, I just planted 10 new things this past weekend. Sigh, this time of year is tricky. My image today is of the waterfall at the Geary State Fishing Lake south of me this Spring. I am always amazed that such a waterfall exists near me in a place you would not think would have an at least 30 foot high water feature like this. When it rains it is just beautiful. I captured it this day in late afternoon sun and i like how the light rays played into the image.

Posting late as I was out of town at a Conference all day. Last Thursday I went back out to the waterfall at the Geary State Lake. We had had some more rain and I had not gotten a couple of shots to work out that I took the first time and so wanted to redo. This is the result of one of them. The waterfall was flowing quite nicely, even a bit stronger than it had when I was first there. The light was good as well and I was able to get this 3 second exposure with an ND filter.

I went to the Geary State Lake Waterfall this past Saturday. With the 4 inches of rain that we had had it was flowing pretty well. It still amazes me that I lived in this area for over 25 years and never knew something like this was so close until about 3 years ago. It does only flow well when it rains well so I guess that is part of it. The photo is a 4 second exposure. The filters I was using give the image and odd color cast which I am having to experiment with how to get rid of it. While playing I decided to see what this image would look like in B&W and I liked the result. I gave it a slight sepia tone as well.

So another over 100 day in store today. Yuck. This image is from last weekend before this started on a fairly cool evening. I took this after my disappointment at not finding a sunflower field anywhere around us. I headed for the Geary State Fishing Lake to view the lovely sunset. At least the drive wasn't a total waste.

So it got to over 100 today already, good grief. My image was taken back when it was cooler and we had rain as well which was only 3 weeks ago but seems forever. This is the waterfall at the Geary State Fishing Lake from a different vantage point then the image I previously shared where I had to wade across the stream. I took this from the bank and is a sunnier view.

So the week before Memorial Day we probably got all our rain for the summer. We had over 5 inches at least during that week. Due to that the waterfall at the Geary State Fishing Lake was flowing stronger than I have ever seen and was quite cool. To get this shot I had to walk across water that was deeper than my boots I had on and flowing a bit faster than I would have liked but I did it slowly and was fine. I took a bit of a long exposure to get the silky look, 1.3 seconds long using a neutral density filter to keep it from over exposing too much. It's still amazing to me that we have such a beautiful waterfall so close here in Kansas. In Kansas at all, because when I think of waterfalls like this I don't think of here. :-)

Today I am posting a more sunny view of the falls at the Geary State Fishing Lake. I like this image in that it shows the layers of Limestone Rock that is so prevalent in Kansas and found all over the state. Out west, fence posts are even made of it. I like how the water has brought out the colors in the layers as well. It also shows off a large fissure that runs the whole width of the falls. I'd like to know more about what caused that. I wonder if it was an earthquake back during that time period?

So we got a little more rain last night. A bit disappointing that it wasn't very significant but glad we got a bit. It did cool it down so that was nice. Mid 80s already is a bit hot. My new plants need to grow and not wilt right off. :-) Due to parts of the area getting rain the waterfall south of here at the Geary State Fishing Lake is running fairly nicely. I went out last week and got this image of it. I tried to be a bit artsy with this one and the rock.

What another lovely morning it was, only 63 when I left for work, nice! A bit warmer during the day than I would like but if the mornings are cool I'll take it. :-) This image comes from the day I went to check out the waterfall at the Geary State Fishing Lake. Both times I have been there I have seen these dragonflies, I think they like the falls as well. They are beautiful and hard to get a photo of and I believe they are called Jewel Wings. I like their hairy legs.

Well, we got rain last night but supposed to be almost 100 today so a bit like a sauna again. Sigh. This image is from when I went to check out the waterfall near where I live but it was a bit disappointing. The vies that evening however were not. This is looking south over Geary State Fishing Lake. Some rather dramatic clouds that evening. It's a 2 frame panorama so best viewed large by clicking on it.

Yikes, it's August! Summer has gone too fast. This image is from last week when I decided to go check out the waterfall at the Geary State Fishing Lake south of town. I was hoping that due to all the rain we had had it would be flowing nicely. It was flowing but not like I thought, I waited too long. Ah well. On the way back to the car I was able to get this view. This is actually a panorama of 3 frames shot portrait style and then stitched together. A lovely evening with the clouds. Best viewed full size by clicking on the image.

We get to see the sun again! A beautiful blue sky for the first time in many days! This is another view of the sunset out at the Geary State fishing Lake that I took back in October. I shot this version as I was on my way back to the car. I liked the look of the light in the clouds and the color it was creating. I also liked how it looked on the water.

This is an image of some fall grass that I captured at sunset out at the Geary State Fishing Lake one evening. I liked how it silhouetted against the sky. I believe this may be Indian Grass.

It's the first day of November and our first hard freeze of the year. Got down in the 20s last night. I am kind of surprised it took this long as cool as it had been at times this summer and fall. So winter is seriously on the way now.
This is an image I got one evening a couple of weeks ago when I went out to take photos with my new camera. I went out to the Geary State Lake to see what I could find interesting. There were some clouds in the sky that evening so I hoped for some color as the sun set and this is the result of that. I even have a title for it: On Golden Lake.
