Happy Groundhog Day!  Hopefully spring is on the way.  Today is also a kind of interesting digit day.  😋  Today's image is of a butterfly that is usually the first one I see each year those this past year I was surprised by a Swallowtail.  This is a lovely Buckeye butterfly on the the Ironweed that I captured a while back.

Normally my butterfly shots are good for bokeh images too.  This one has basically the absence of bokeh or in reality, quite smooth bokeh.  Anyway, this is a Painted Lady I captured on the Butterfly bush enjoying the blooms one afternoon.

TGIF!  As I mentioned last week in my Wildflower post, the Dotted Gayfeather is blooming and it is attracting all kinds of nature as well.  I was able to see and capture this Buckeye butterfly enjoying the blooms.  I chose to share this image today because Friday's Are Bokehlicious and I liked the bokeh behind created by other grasses.

It's Friday, TGIF!  Unlike a lot of people, I never stopped working but the days still seem to flow together and seem hard to remember.  Anyway, the photo.  The smaller butterflies have made a big come back lately in my area.  I have seen a lot of Painted Ladies recently and then on last Friday I was able to capture this Buckeye Butterfly enjoying a Speedwell flower.  It wasn't until I was looking through the images that I captured that I saw there was a little bee captured on it's way in too.  There is some nice abstract bokeh in this image as well and Friday's are Bokehlicious!

Here is a lovely Buckeye Butterfly that I captured in early August enjoying the Zinnia flowers.  I have been able to capture a lot of butterflies this year to brighten up the winter months.

We had quite the rain yesterday, I got 2 inches, some people got 3.  I was happy with what I got.  My image today is of my latest butterfly visitors to the garden.  The Buckeyes have been around lately and I captured this one enjoying the Zinnia.  I find it funny that this is the flower they enjoy the most as this is the one I find the butterflies on and not the others I have planted for them.

It's Friday the 13th.  Hope it has been OK for you.  It generally is a good day for me, not sure what that says about things.  Anyway, my image today is one I captured last October.  I wanted to share this today because Earth Day is coming up next weekend and also Spring is arriving, although very slowly.  When you are thinking about plants to buy and plant this year, keep the butterflies in mind.  Zinnias, which this Monarch is enjoying, are fairly cheap and can be grown from seed and last up until a hard frost to provide nutrients for the butterflies when other flowers have faded away.  I loved the creamy bokeh in the background of this image because Fridays are all about the bokeh.

I had not seen a big variety of butterflies this summer, it was a big year for Painted Ladies though.  I finally had some different ones visit early this Autumn.  This is a beautiful and perfect Buckeye that came to visit the garden not that long ago and allowed me to get a few shots of it.

11/16/16

This Autumn has been quite warm so far.  This past Friday, November 11, I spotted and captured this Buckeye butterfly while at the railroad just east of Topeka, KS.  I don't think I have ever seen a butterfly of any size that late in the year.  I had hoped to capture it on something more interesting but the contrast with the rock and the light really shows off the detail and iridescent quality of the wings.  I'm not sure I really ever noticed that before on this variety of butterfly.

I shot this image exactly 2 weeks ago today.  This was my first sighting of a Buckeye butterfly.  It was enjoying a group of wildflowers and I caught it when it rested for a moment on a Snow On the Mountain bloom.

Well, this is more like the Kansas Fall I remember, windy!  Ha.  Anyway, still great for working outside.  This is an image from last summer.  This lovely Buckeye Butterfly was visiting some plants and I was able to get a shot.  I did not see many at all of this type around this year.  Very sad about that.  Love these, the patterns on the wings are very pretty and do remind of eyes.
