The Orioles are back!  I had made some sugar water for the Hummingbirds in hopes that they would arrive and find it last Sunday.  I was very surprised to see my first visitor to it was not a Hummer but a Baltimore Oriole!  I was able to capture him as he was getting a drink.  I put out the grape jelly for them which they enjoy more and am still waiting to see my first Hummingbird as I type this.

Forgot to set the time for this to post when I created it.  Sorry it was late.

This is an older image, from late this spring of a Baltimore Oriole.  This is a female and she had come to enjoy the grape jelly we put out for them.  There are days that we can fill these 3 times when they are really hungry.  Plus this past year we had, at least, 3 pairs.  They are fairly difficult to get a picture of, this was photographed through the door.

The Baltimore Orioles are back and have been very enjoyable to watch and hear, they have a rather distinctive chirp.  We put grape jelly out for them and they really go through it until the Mulberries ripen up.  We actually got some rain a week ago and I captured this male looking a bit bedraggled while trying to take some shelter in the Mulberry tree.

This is an older image from late this past Spring.  I was able to capture a Baltimore Oriole in a more natural setting and not just eating jelly.  I think I actually got this image in Missouri and not at home though.

My photos I have been able to capture of the Baltimore Orioles have not been in the most natural settings but I take what I can get.  This is a closeup I was able to get of a female which shows very well  the less vibrant color of them.  The females tend more to a dull yellow/orange color and with the same accent patterns on their wings but in a more brownish color.

The Baltimore Orioles are back in our area as well as the Hummers.  They arrived at about the same time.  We have 4 pairs and they are going through the jelly like crazy.  I have a different looking feeder now but it still has the same 2 jars.  This is a male, they are more vivid orange than the females.

The Baltimore Orioles are back.  I had sugar water out for them at first for about 3 days.  One evening they were looking in the window as if to say, "Hey, we have been here for 3 days now, where's the good stuff".  I put out the grape jelly and they haven't been doing that since so I think I was right.  😄  I was able to capture this image of both a male and female on the feeder at the same time.

I have another bird with bokeh today.  The Baltimore Orioles have been going crazy at the feeders, they have even been eating peanuts this year along with grape jelly and nectar.  The females are usually rare to see but even they have been around a lot.  I actually was able to capture this female while she was sitting in the River Birch.

The Orioles are back.  I have seen 3 males but no females yet.  They always seem a bit slower to show up.  I caught this one curiously eyeing my butterfly LED lights.

Today is the last day of my hosting the Bird Poker theme and my one for today was Bright Birds with Bokeh.  I thought this image of a male Baltimore Oriole that I captured earlier this year fit that theme pretty well.  I love the kind of bubbly bokeh behind from tree leaves and sky.

I shot this image earlier this year of a female Baltimore Oriole on the Grape Jelly feeder.  I have still seen them around but they don't come as often since the Mulberries are ripe and available.  Now that the Mulberries are ending they may be back more.

The Baltimore Orioles have been back and visiting the Grape Jelly feeder quite a lot.  There are at least 4 males and 2 females.  Hard to tell exactly because I don't see them all at one time.  I captured this male on the pole for the Hummingbird feeder and I liked the bokeh behind him.

The Baltimore Orioles are back.  I put out my jelly feeder that a friend made for me on Wednesday evening and I saw my first visitors this morning.  I have at least 2 males and 1 female coming for jelly so far.  I captured this male as he was leaving after his grape jelly snack.

I decided on a splash of nice bright color for today.  This is a male Baltimore Oriole that was enjoying some jelly from the deck feeder one day this spring.

Well, looks like maybe we will be a couple of days without rain now and hopefully see the sun.  I captured this image this morning, just about 30 minutes ago.  The Baltimore Orioles are back in full force this year, we have at least 3 pairs that come to feed at the liquid feeder and the jelly. The Mulberries are ripening so I am wondering if they will keep coming but we shall see.  They did last year.  This is a beautiful male enjoying a jelly breakfast.

Well, it got pretty cold last night, there was frost on the grass so I am glad I took some stuff in.  My image for today I shot in May and it fit well for the Bird Poker Game of Eating with a sub theme of Looking at Me.  I had a number of Orioles visiting this year and they stayed for quite a while.  Usually they would leave when the Mulberries came ripe as there were those to eat but this year they stayed through that and even some weeks beyond.  This is a female Baltimore Oriole and I was pleased to get the shot as she is usually very quick and elusive.  I was able to capture her a couple of times.

Happy Memorial Day!  Hope you are having a good one.  The Orioles are finally back.  They arrived last week and were later than usual I think.  I have a one pair at least of Baltimore Orioles and then I have seen an immature male and also an Orchard Oriole.  So our usual group seems to be back.  I caught this male taking a break on the railing between feeding and got a nice close up of him.

We had a bit of sprinkles one day last week.  During this time I had refilled the grape jelly and there were several Orioles coming to eat at once.  A spat broke out between a couple of them when one got possessive.  I was able to capture the argument but not the more heated lunge by the one on the left.  It was getting dark and that image was mostly a blur of wings.

I posted a Hummingbird shot on Monday and mentioned that it was the Baltimore orioles that were eating their food.  I got an image of one of them on the feeder yesterday.  I actually saw my first Hummer too, it chased off the Oriole!  I wasn't able to get a photo though.

Posting late today, was out of town all day.  This is an older shot I had that I completely forgot about till I was going through files and found it while looking for something else.  This is a Baltimore Oriole at my old feeder with a Hummingbird at the feeder in the background.  Thought it was cool to get them both at once.
