10/18/23

It's Wildflower Wednesday here on the Blog!  I was surprised to see this flower last week while on a bike ride.  The blooming period is supposed to be July through October but I have never seen it bloom this late.  This is Common Evening Primrose.  Native Americans used the whole plant in various ways.  Seeds for food, they cooked and ate the leaves as greens, they boiled the roots like potatoes, and they also soaked the whole plant and applied it as a poultice to bruises.
