I think I finally saw and captured a Wood Duck couple. The male is not as handsomely colored as what I have seen in photos but the female definitely has the eye spot. I saw these on one of the many ponds around the area I was staying in Minnesota.
Wood ducks for sure. The male is till in molt, give him a few weeks and will likely be back to colour. He is an adult as his eye is red. At first I was wondering if he had a turtle on his back, then I realized it was the coloured feathers in his wing🙄 Lots of nice painted turtles
Thanks so much for the positive ID Jim! Also on the turtles. Unfortunately I won't be able to see it in full color but happy to have seen and captured them at all.
