6/23/22

I captured today's image while out on Konza Prairie.  I had heard of this before but had never seen it in person until that evening.  This was a huge swarm of Honeybees in the crook of a tree.  I heard they do this when they leave one hive and are in the process of finding another place to make one.  This was on a Friday evening and when I went by on Sunday there was absolutely no evidence they had ever been there.

  1. They better not be on the way to my house. We had a beehive in our attic crawl space last year. Great capture.

    1. Yes, I like bees but would not want them in my house. Thanks a lot Tom!

  2. They are beat to see. A beekeeper I knew always hung a new hive in a nearby tree in case a queen made a break for it with her workers. Twice the escapees moved into the temp hive and filled it choc-a-block full with honey comb

    1. I've thought about bee keeping but decided it's too involved for me right now. Maybe when I retire. Thanks Jim, it was very cool to see a huge group like that just out and about.
