 It's Wildflower Wednesday here on the Blog!  Today's image is of Narrow-leaf Bluets.  These usually bloom May through September and can be from 4 to 20 inches in height.  They have a deep taproot so are able to withstand drought very well.

 It's Wildflower Wednesday here on the Blog!  Today's flower is Blue Sage also called Pitcher Sage due to honoring Dr Zina Pitcher, an Army Botanist and surgeon.  It can bloom from July to October.  I found this example in September.  It is in the Mint family and it's roots can extend up to 8 feet.

 It's Wildflower Wednesday here on the Blog!  Today's flower is one that has been very abundant in my area recently.  This is Prairie Blue-eyed Grass.  It usually blooms April through June.  It is a rather dainty plant, growing from 4 to 16 inches tall with fairly small flowers.  The name is mis-leading as it is not a grass but is part of the Iris family.

 It's Wildflower Wednesday here on the Blog!  This is another flower that surprised me this past week.  I was walking to get the mail and looked down and saw several blue blooms of my Chicory!  That was quite the surprise as it is usually not even blooming at this time of the day much less this time of the year.  Chicory usually blooms July through September, this plant was obviously confused.  Chicory grows along roadsides fairly commonly and can be seen along I-70 in Kansas and Missouri during it's regular bloom time fairly consistently.

 It's Wildflower Wednesday here on the Blog!  Today's flower is one I don't get to see very often.  This is Chicory.  The flowers close up during the day.  It blooms July through September.  I was able to capture this on a cloudy day when the flowers stayed open longer.

 It's Wildflower Wednesday here on the Blog!  I have some Chicory that migrated into my driveway and was even mowed down by the public right of way mowers but recovered enough to bloom.  I was able to capture this in the first week of November.  It is a 2 image stack to get all three flowers in focus.

 It's Wildflower Wednesday here on the Blog.  Today's flower is one that just appeared in my yard last year for the first time.  It seems to flower in late summer and is a lovely blue.  It is called Ivy Leaf Morning Glory.

 It's Wildflower Wednesday on the Blog!  This year I updated my Wildflowers in Kansas pages with a lot of new images and bloom dates.  It was a good year for wildflower sightings around my area.  Today's flower is a new one for me that I added to the Blue & Purple page as well.  I had never seen this one before and it was growing in my Garden Railway!  I am guessing a bird must have brought it in somehow.  This is Ivy Leaf Morning Glory and I love the blue color of it's flowers.  Not thrilled it's in the railway.  I may have to end up pulling it out if it becomes an issue.

 It's Wildflower Wednesday on the Blog!  Today is one I have shared before but it's one of my favorites.  This is Chicory and can be seen growing wild along the highway in Kansas in summer.  Mine in my yard was still blooming even after the first hard frost we had in October which really surprised me.  I notice in looking at this picture in comparison with an earlier one when I uploaded it that the blooms in the colder weather are more blue than the purple they are in the summer.  Interesting.  I don't often get to enjoy the blooms of Chicory as they close up during the heat of the day.

It's Wildflower Wednesday on the Blog once again.  Today's flower is Chicory.  It blooms a lot along I-70 in Kansas and Missouri and can be seen in several states.  The first time I saw it to know what it was, was in West Virginia a few years back.  I took this image of it in my yard though.  I planted it several years ago and it has done well, maybe too well as it moved out of the garden and into the edge of the driveway.  You usually have to see it before noon as the flowers close up when the hot sun starts beating down on it.  The flowers are blue and purple.

Happy Earth Day everyone!  Earth Day should be every day in my opinion.
Today is Wildflower Wednesday on the Blog once again.  This is one that is quite common in my area in spring and is one of the first flowers to bloom but I never realized what it was until I looked it up this year.  It is in the Veronica family and is called Wayside Speedwell.  I think it has quite lovely flowers actually even though it is considered a weed when it gets in lawns.
This flower has been added to the Lavender and Blue Page of Kansas Wildflowers that I hope are of use to people in search of IDs for the flowers you find around your area.

Today's Wildflower Wednesday is another one that I found blooming on Konza Prairie in early October.  This one is a late summer to autumn bloomer and is called Blue Sage or Pitcher Sage.  It is a type of Salvia and is also in the Mint Family.  They usually like dry conditions and part shade.  My image on my Kansas Wildflower pages shows it more in a full bloom.

We have had over an inch of rain in the past 2 nights bringing the total for the month to over 9 inches.  We didn't get 9 inches total for the year last year.  This is quite crazy.  The plants and weeds are loving it though.  This is my spring Speedwell in bloom.  I love it's blue color and it was just full of blooms this year.
