 It's Wildflower Wednesday today here on the Blog!  Today's flower is Woolly Verbena.  It usually blooms June through September.  It's also known as Hoary Vervain.  Prairie Chickens and small mammals eat the seeds.  It is very drought hardy and it's roots can extend 12 feet.

 It's Wildflower Wednesday here on the Blog!  Today's flower is one I enjoy a lot.  This is Wooly Verbena.  It usually flowers June through September so it is done now, I took this image during a bike ride a while back.  It is very drought resistant with roots that can extend to 12 feet.  Cattle do not like the taste as it is bitter.  Plains Indians made a tea from the leaves to treat stomachaches.

We made it to Friday and Friday's Are Bokehlicious!  Friday's are for butterflies as well a lot of the time like today.  I have been lucky to see a lot of larger type butterflies this summer like this Giant Swallowtail, the largest butterfly in our state.  This one was enjoying the blooms of some Woolly Verbena, a Kansas wildflower, on my land last week and I was lucky enough to capture it in flight a couple of times.  I loved the bokeh that the grass behind made for the image.
