I had to make an unscheduled trip to Minnesota recently. I saw numerous Sunflower fields in the area but most of them were all sad and done. I got lucky and found one field still in bloom. Some of the flower heads were the largest I had ever seen, like dinner plates. I was capturing this near sunset but it was rather cloudy at the time as well.
Today's image is another of the Sunflower field near where I live. I wonder what they are growing these for as they have smaller heads on them than the kind for oils or seeds. Maybe they just make them happy as they do for me. I was able to get a photo from a different angle so I was able to capture more heads facing the camera.
It's the last day of August! The year is going so quickly, the summer especially. I thought I would finish out the month with something that makes me happy. This is another image from the Sunflower field that I found recently. We had just had a rain storm so the sky was still overcast and made the flowers stand out well.
It's a double digit day today! 😀 Sunflowers make me happy! I actually found a Sunflower field very close to me this year. I am not revealing the location because people can be obnoxious and ruin them trying to take their selfies. 😒 Anyway, I was able to get some images the other evening from outside the field with my telephoto lens and this is one of them. How I saw this field was a humorous story. I was busy looking for a lizard that I normally see in this area and I heard the hubster say "Look at that" and point and I looked to the side and there was the field! I had not even noticed it and was completely surprised to see one so close.
Happy Monday! On the way home from Minnesota, I passed by a field of Sunflowers that were actually still blooming. On the way up, all the ones I passed, the heads were down and done. I just had to stop and take a few quick photos of which this is one. Sunflowers make me happy so a good way to start the week.
Double digit day, 10/10/2020. Nothing that special, I just notice it when typing in my date title. 😀 Today's image is of the Sunflower field I was able to take pictures at this year just a bit south of where I live. Our sunsets have been affected by the wildfires out west. The sun appears quite red as it sets. I hope California gets some relief soon and that everyone stays safe out there.
As I mentioned, a friend of mine saw this field on her way back from Wichita and alerted me to it. It was a couple miles south of the State Lake that I have shot and shared images from. I was very happy to see that some of the blooms still were quite lovely looking and the heads had not started to droop as yet. Our skies are being affected by the wildfires out west so the sun was very hazy and fiery red as it was setting in the west.
So I was whining a little over a week ago about not having a Sunflower field to shoot when a friend of mine was coming back from out of town and told me there was one just south of us. I headed out on Tuesday evening to have a look and, Yay, most of the heads were still upright and lovely. Some had not even fully opened liked the one in this image. I thought the petals that were showing reminded me of flames reaching for the sky. This is the type of fire I like. My thoughts are with my friends out west dealing with the devastating wildfires, hope it will be over soon and you all stay safe.
I didn't get to go out looking for a Sunflower field this year. Not sure why, I didn't have anywhere else to go but seemed quite busy anyway. This is one from several years ago in a field south of where I live that hadn't seemed to plant any after. I'm not sure if they don't bring enough money or they need to rotate or what. I had better luck finding fields in Minnesota even though Kansas is the Sunflower State but that's because of the wild ones that grow here.
