 Another bird I have had quite a few opportunities to capture this year is the Western Meadowlark.  This is the state bird of Kansas as well.  I captured this image of one sitting at the top of a Pine tree while on a bike ride not too long ago.

 I have been able to capture a lot of birds this Spring.  The Meadowlarks overwinter but I don't get to see them much.  In the Spring, while bike riding, I am seeing them somewhat often though rarely get a chance to photograph because as soon as I stop, they fly off.  I got lucky with this one that just kept moving a little way down the fence.  These birds are our state bird here in Kansas.

 It's a double digit day!  😀  I always thought that these birds did not hang around in winter but maybe it's a sign that their numbers are doing better because I saw them several times.  I was able to capture this pair while out on a bike ride in late winter on a warm day.  These are Western Meadowlarks, the Kansas state bird.

 I was able to observe several Western Meadowlarks late this past spring.  I am always happy to see them because they seemed to be declining in past years.  It is the Kansas state bird.  I captured this one off to the side of the road in a field singing.

 Spring in Kansas means some birds are back in the area.  One of these is our state bird, the Western Meadowlark.  I was able to get a pretty good shot of one while on a bike ride the other day.

 Today's image is of one of my favorite birds to find and photograph.  I was lucky this year to see them in the spring numerous times.  This is the state bird of Kansas as well, the Western Meadowlark.  This is a pair of them I observed in some bushes on a walk one afternoon.

While I have been walking in one certain spot a Meadowlark has flown out of the grass nearby.  I searched a bit in the area it comes from and found a nest with 4 eggs in it.  This distresses me because it is in an area that is mowed at times by the city.  So, I am guessing, this is a female.  Not sure why she chose there to have a nest.  They have a chance, because it is very low to the ground, but not if the tire should go over them.  I thought about marking it but didn't want anyone to notice and bother it needlessly.  Not sure what to do about it.  Hope they will be OK.  Western Meadowlarks are the Kansas State bird.

Today is a triple digit day, April the 20th of 2020.  It's the little things these days.  Anyway, another thing that I have enjoyed this spring is the different birds I have been able to see and capture.  I had a nice surprise the other evening while walking to see 3 Western Meadowlarks at one time while they were foraging in the grass.  2 evenings later I was able to capture this shot of one of them in a tree doing it's lovely calling.  The Western Meadowlark is the Kansas state bird but has become somewhat scarce in the last few years and I have usually only been able to view them out on Konza Prairie.  It was exciting to see in the area again, in fact so much so that when I first realized what I was seeing, I made an excited type of gasp and scared the closest one and caused it to fly further away before I could get a shot.  Fortunately I got this opportunity later.

This is an older image I found and thought I would share.  I captured it a while back while out on a walk at Konza Prairie.  Not the best capture as I couldn't get very close but clear.  This is the state bird of Kansas singing it's heart out on the prairie one evening in early June.  It's a Western Meadowlark.
