04/09/24

On Monday, 4/8, there was an eclipse of the sun over North America.  We were not in totality but I still went out to capture it as we got to around 85 to 87 percent.  I would have really liked a chance at total but from the news it sounded that to travel would be fairly crazy with all the people trying to do the same thing.  Even at 85% it was cool to see and experience as it got cooler and darker out.  This is my composite of what I was able to capture.  It started a bit earlier than I thought so I missed the very beginning.  I shot this sequence with my camera on my telescope.

  1. Nicely done Shelly. We had 98% totality. I decided not to try to take pictures as I figured I'd be fussing with my camera too much and would miss actually seeing it not through a view finder😊

    1. Thanks so much Jim! I thought I saw you'd be total. Bet it was neat at 98%. I could tell it was darker but it's kind of amazing how light it still is with so much blocked. I could tell better if I ran inside to do or get something that the light was definitely dimmer.

  2. Amazing composite and beautifully done Kelly! This is Marilou, I watched the eclipse in Virginia at 83% totality! You're right, it was still pretty amazing to see even if we didn't get to experience totality!
