Happy Monday! Starting off with some butterflies again. These are more of the Hackberry Emperor butterfly swarm that I was able to experience. These are some of the males that sit in the trees in the sun facing downward and watch for females. The Hackberry tree is it's host and where it get's it's name from. I saw this huge swarm at a Field Station outside Lawrence Kansas.
Neat shot. We have hackberry trees in one spot in town (That I know of) but I've not seen any butterflies like that on them.
ReplyDeleteClosest like that would be the swarms of gypsy moths a few years ago that stripped many trees, killing some.
Luckily the butterflies don't kill anything by swarming.
DeleteNice capture. They almost look like mushrooms growing on the bark.
ReplyDeleteThanks Tom! I thought that as well.
