I captured this White-lined Sphinx Hummingbird Moth enjoying a Thistle flower a while back.  They are also known as just a Hummingbird Moth.  They are pretty elusive and I don't see them often so it was great to be able to get a photo of one.  I found out something interesting about Hummingbird moths, their caterpillar stage are Hornworms.  One variety is the Tobacco Hornworm that destroys tomato plants if left alone.

A cool but lovely day today.  Looks like the end of the week will not be so nice.  This is an image from last November that I never shared for some reason.  I was able to capture this Hummingbird Moth feeding on one of my hardier plants that I can't remember the name of at the moment.  It can survive a frost though so I am sure the Moth was glad to find it.  I was able to get several shots.  I used a flash on this one to capture it in better detail.  I didn't see any of these this year at all.  They can be elusive though so hopefully they were around.

This is an older image.  Last year was a good year to see these guys, they seemed to be everywhere.  Lately I have not seen much nature, I think most things have gone somewhere cooler since it's been so unbearably hot here lately.  This Hummingbird or Glasswing Moth was enjoying the blooms of this Milkweed when I got this image of it.  They are such cool little moths the way they hover like the birds of the same name.

So the Lilac was quite popular this Spring.  I had various types of nature visiting including myself to smell the wonderful fragrance it was giving.  Lilacs last too short of a time.  I usually don't see these guys till during the summer but this Hummingbird Moth was busily enjoying the blooms which is why he's a bit blurred, I captured it in flight.
