5/5/19

It is a beautiful day here in Kansas.  It's a little more windy than I would like but sunny and the temps are lovely.  My image today goes back to a lovely May day last year and the Cumbres & Toltec train heading over the Lobato Trestle on it's way back to Chama New Mexico.

The year is almost over.  I decided to share my favorite railway once again for the last Sunday of the year.  This is the Cumbres & Toltec train heading back to Chama New Mexico.  I captured it here just coming off the Lobato Trestle.  This trestle had to be repaired a couple of years ago as there was a fire on it possibly started by fireworks.  Not sure they ever found the exact cause.  It had to undergo some major repair work but they kept the original look of it while strengthening it up to more modern standards.

This image was taken almost exactly 5 months ago now, time flies.  This is the day in May I was chasing the Cumbres & Toltec train as it headed back to Chama New Mexico for photographic opportunities.  I captured it here as it was crossing the Lobato Trestle.  The open car that you can see almost at the end is where I like to ride and photograph from.  You get good images as it rounds a curve like this of the locomotive.

Well, I said my photos would be birds everyday and I lied.  😁  Sunday is for steam trains so this is another shot that I took while riding the Cumbres & Toltec.  Here the train was just beginning to cross Lobato trestle.  Lobato is the area where the beginning of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade was filmed.  The part where Indy is on the Circus train.  Indy's home is in Antonito, CO, the one end of the C&T, and is now a bed and breakfast.
