It's Wildflower Wednesday here on the Blog! Today's flower is one of my favorites and it is blooming right now. I believe this is Hairy Aster. It is identified by hairs on it's stem which I did not capture in this image. Correction: I double checked and this is actually Heath Aster. There are several types of Aster in our area and you have to look close to tell which one it is. Hairy Asters bloom in September and October. Heath Asters bloom during the same time, usually to only 3 feet. They can grow to 5 feet tall. I find them very photogenic.

It's Wildflower Wednesday here on the Blog! Today's image is of some Asters that have established themselves at the edge of one of my gardens. The butterflies and bees were really enjoying them this past weekend. Asters are difficult to tell apart but I believe this variety is Hairy Aster. The main stalk has very small hairs on it. It blooms in September and October. Asters are part of the Sunflower family.

Fridays Are Bokehlicious and today is about butterflies again as well. This is a Common Variegated Fritillary I was able to capture out on Konza Prairie a couple of weekends ago. There were several of these and other types around that day enjoying the last of the wildflowers like these Asters. The long grass behind provided some nice bokeh to make the butterfly stand out a bit better.

It's another Wildflower Wednesday on the Blog. Today's' flower has been in bloom for a couple of weeks now and is called Hairy Aster. If you look closely at the stems, you can see little hairs. I saw quite a lot still in bloom at Konza Prairie but this was taken in my yard a couple of weeks ago.
