 Last weekend I went to see a Cattle Drive in my town with a friend.  They did take to the sale barn from surrounding ranches but they were not Longhorns like these.  There were 18 Longhorn Cattle up from a ranch in Oklahoma.  They were herding them down the street from the Sale Barn to the downtown market area.  In the rear, in red, are the General's Mounted Color Guard from Ft. Riley.  It was great to see them as, for a while, they were going to be decommissioned.  It was fun to see something a bit different and it was all an effort to bring people into the downtown area which it seemed to as there was quite the crowd.

 It's a double digit day today!  😀 I was on the army post of Fort Riley a short time ago and was stopped in traffic.  I found out the reason was the General's Mounted Color Guard was riding down the street.  I had never seen them do this before.  It made me a bit sad because the Color Guard has to disband and get rid of their horses.  They are looking for homes for them right now.  They have been a well known attraction in my area and have attended many events where people of all ages have enjoyed seeing them.

Edit:  Since I got this post ready, I have heard on the radio that they can stay!  Yay!  This army post has such a history with cavalry, it would have been such a shame to not see them any longer.

This is an older image that I found and liked and decided to share.  The General's Mounted Color Guard puts on demonstrations at times of riding and shooting skills from back when Fort Riley was a Cavalry Post.  This was one such event that was held at the Spring Valley Site of the Geary County Historical Society.
