Happy first day of February, the year is moving along and winter too, looking forward to being done with that. It's Steamy Sunday here on the Blog! Today's image is a steamy shot of the Wagner locomotive that I get to operate up in Rollag Minnesota at the Western Minnesota Steam Thresher's school and/or Reunion. We were operating the locomotive on this day in September during the Labor Day weekend show. The steam is produced from the injector as it was being ether turned on or shut off. "Train Poop" refers to the ash and coal remnants that come out of the ash pan when we clean it. 😂

Is"train poop" what I used to call "clunkers" from my childhood home's coal furnace?
ReplyDeleteCan be. We hope it's not though. Mostly it is just unburned coal or small ash from the coal that goes through the grates. If too much gets built up the engine doesn't "breathe" correctly. We dump it on the ground and then shovel it into that container to be taken away at a later point. It can be fairly hot because small burning pieces will fall through as well.
DeleteDoesn't sound like it's the same thing. "our" clunkers were shovel size pieces of coal "ash". More like a hard glossy rock with many sharp fissures. (NOt described well, but obviously isn't the same thing.)
DeleteYes, we get those at times but it is definitely not desirable so it's good when it's just the normal ash/small coal type stuff.
