11/30/23

It's the last day of November, only 25 days until Christmas!  For today's picture, I saw this guy about two and a half weeks ago on a bike ride.  It was sitting across the road from a fairly large pond.  It may have been coming from a pond a little way behind it.  It was nice and bright and fairly large and kind of surprising to see at this time of year.  It's a Painted Turtle.

  1. Wonder what happened to my comment? I agreed it is an odd time of year. Many years ago we spotted one out on the ice in early spring. It meandered around a bit and then disappeared back down through a crack in the ice

    1. I think you missed this one. I checked back in the Comments area and it wasn't there either. I was reading recently that butterflies may be out in the cold months, the ones that overwinter. Nature is resilient.

  2. I know bees will come out in the middle of the winter to relieve themselves. Hadn't heard of butterflies coming out in the cold, although the mourning cloaks are often out in late March

    1. I hadn't either and it was Mourning Cloaks that they mentioned as an example. I had also heard about the bees.
