While I was in New Mexico waiting on a train, I had a wonderful experience.  I got to see an owl in the wild up close!  It was so cool.  It sat there for a bit so I could get several pictures of it before it decided to fly away.  I believe it is a Flammulated Owl and they feed mainly on insects.  They usually are in Pine or Fir trees so are hard to spot but this one happened to be sitting in an Aspen tree.  It was very cool to see it.

When I was at my friend's home photographing the young Barred owls the parents were around as well feeding them.  This is a capture of one of the parents.  I could tell because it was not as fuzzy as the young ones were at that point.  It was beautiful to see them fly overhead.

This is another image of one of the young Barred Owls I got to photograph recently at my friend's house.  She is quite lucky to have them nesting somewhere very near and being around her yard.  They were just learning to fly and hunt when I took this image.

In the past few weeks I have been able to see and photograph a couple of birds I really like but are rather elusive.  For this one I got lucky because a friend of mine has them in her yard every year for the past few years.  She is quite lucky to be able to observe them and they must know it is a safe place to be because they come back each year.  I captured this image of a young Barred owl and I liked the blank tree space in this so I did not crop it.  The young ones are so fluffy and cute.

Well the weather is rather depressing.  Only 18 degrees this morning, my Lilacs which are budding out are probably doomed.  Supposed to be even colder on Friday.  😩  I had chosen owls for the theme today and glad I did because seeing them cheers me up.  I got to to see this one when a friend invited me over who gets them in her yard.  They were coming at about the same time each evening and did not disappoint on this day.  It is a young Barred Owl and was hunting for dinner but posed several times for some shots.

Winter is here in temps today, only a high in the 30s.  My image today was taken on a nice summer day in June at a friend's house where she is lucky to have Barred Owls come and hunt in the yard.  I captured this young one in the tree in between it swooping down to the ground for a snack.  Owls are such cool, beautiful and mysterious birds.

Interesting date today, a lot of sevens.  Will it be a lucky day?  :-)  My image today I got a couple of weeks ago over at a friend's house.  She is very lucky to see these guys quite often as they nest in the woods near her home and visit her yard to hunt and drink from her bird bath.  I was lucky to see them one night while I was over there and this is one of the images I got that I was pretty happy with.

I have had this photo for a while but I was never happy with how it turned out.  I was able to shoot this Barred Owl at a friend's house in her backyard.  It's the only time I have been able to photograph an owl in the wild.  It used to hang around her yard and visit the bird bath and stay for fairly long periods of time which was how I got to see it.  Anyway, since I took this image, my skills have improved a bit I think and I like the look of it now.
