I saw this guy while out on a bike ride one afternoon early this summer.  It flew across the road in front of me and I got lucky that it landed in a place where I could capture it.  This is  Red headed Woodpecker, a very appropriate name.

I haven't posted a bird image in a bit and this is actually one I have had for quite a while and never shared.  I re-discovered it one day while looking for something else.  This is a beautiful Red Headed Woodpecker that had come to eat some Baltimore Oriole jelly I had put out.

Usually I only capture this Red Headed Woodpecker on a bird feeder of some type in my yard but I spotted where he was flying back to each time and was able to capture him in the tree.  I like how the early evening light was highlighting him.

The Great Backyard Bird Count is going on this weekend.  Today is the last day to participate if you would like to.  Count the birds you see for 15 minutes.  I did my count on Saturday morning and had quite the variety visiting since it was so cold out.  They were coming to drink and eat at the bath and feeders.  I did not see this guy that day, only in the warmer months, a Redheaded Woodpecker at the suet.  He usually comes and eats the Oriole's grape jelly.  😁

It's December.  In some ways this year went really slow but in others it has gone crazy fast.  Seems odd that it is December already.  My image today is one I captured a while back and the usual way I see birds I want to capture, far away and I have the wrong lens.  This is a Red Headed Woodpecker that I saw one day and even though far away I still liked the image with the framing of the tree.

Today's image is a bit older.  I got this shot this spring when the Orioles were around.  This Red Headed Woodpecker was looking for some of their grape jelly.  I shot this through the living room window so I was fairly close.
