 It's Wildflower Wednesday here on the Blog!  Today's flower is Fringed Puccoon.  It bloops from April to June in my area. Native Americans used several parts of the plant to treat coughs and colds and it's name comes from a Native American word.

So we are supposed to have our first hard frost of the season tonight.  The blah starts early.  Sigh.  Winter is just so dull and brown around here.  Maybe we will get some snow to give it some character now and then.  In the meantime, here is a wildflower image that I shot back in May.  This is a Fringed Puccoon or Frilly Puccoon.  It's flowers are fairly small and grow low to the ground.

Wildflowers are blooming already since our weather has been so warm.  I captured these on some  land near me that is a small bit of prairie.  This is Fringed Puccoon that is blooming right now.  It's a blend of 2 images to bring out more focus and detail of the plant in a process called Focus Stacking.  
As a reminder, I have pages here on the site of a lot of the common wildflowers seen here in Kansas that you can use as a reference guide divided out by color to make them easier to ID.
