I had to make a trip to Minnesota this past weekend for a family issue and on the trip up I was treated to an experience that was a "lifer" for me. I got to see and capture a very large flock of Sandhill Cranes! They were in a harvested wheat field and some were even dancing and doing their odd call. Nice catch. I really like the way they dance. Their call is quite loud, I;ve had them 5 feet away from me calling like that.
ReplyDeleteThere is a spot a 2 hour drive NW of us where the sandhills gather before heading south. We get VERY large flocks of them
That would be cool to be able to see so close. Yes, even though a good distance away, the calls were loud. The dancing was very cool to watch, I wish I had done some video, I was just so happy to get some fairly decent photos. As I was getting back in the truck, most of them took off. Didn't get any shots of that though it was neat to see.
