I have had several opportunities to photograph Killdeer this Spring while out on bike rides.  They are fun to watch and I always love to see their red eyes.

The Killdeers are back in the area.  They seem to leave for a few months when it is really cold and then return fairly early.  I captured this image of a pair of them a couple of weeks ago while on a bike ride.

Today's image is of another bird I enjoy capturing.  This is a Killdeer, named for the sound they make.  They are fun to watch as they run along the ground and will sometimes play injured to draw you away from their nest.  On this day it was just hanging out in some weeds near a stream on a day in March.

Today's image is another I was able to capture of a Killdeer this year.  They were in my area quite a long time this year.  Usually I only see them in the Spring but I saw them up into the fall this year.  I like this image because with the light it showed the red eye they have.  They are quite cute the way they run around.

I have been able to capture Killdeer birds at various times this year including when I was in Colorado.  This bird was pretending to be injured, it must have had a nest somewhat near but I did not ever see it.  I liked this image because it showed off their red eyes in the evening sunlight.

I have had a good amount of opportunities to see and photograph Killdeer birds this year.  Usually I see them running along the ground but one day this Spring I was actually able to capture one in flight and in focus!  😁

I have had numerous opportunities this spring to see and capture Killdeer.  They are a large Plover that are found in the Americas and their call sounds something like their name.  There is a family of them that were nesting fairly close to a small pond in a ranch's field that I would pass by on while riding my bike so I could see them pretty reliably.  The 3 young chicks were out by the water's edge getting drinks recently and I was able to capture them fairly close together.

It's the firs day of April already!  The year is already one quarter over.  Spring is here in Kansas with temps bouncing around from the 80s to the 50s.  The Killdeer are back and I have been able to see and capture them from time to time.  This is a capture of 3 of them that were in a drainage area, probably looking for water, it is pretty dry right now.

I have seen several Killdeers around since they came back to our area this spring.  There seems to be a group of them around our high school area that I often see while on a bike ride.  I saw them again last week so I stopped to get a few photos of which this is one.

Today's image is of a bird in our area that's a sign of Spring.   This is a Killdeer, you usually hear them before you see them, if you see them.  This image also shows how well they blend into their environment which is good because they nest on the ground.  Sometimes their choice of where they try to nest is not good though.  This area I saw them in should be OK though.

The Killdeers are back so it is officially Spring!  On a bike ride a couple of weeks ago now I was bale to capture one in flight for the first time and I thought it turned out fairly well.  Killdeers are one of the first birds to return to my area each Spring.

While out on a bike ride about a week ago now, I was able to capture my first Killdeer shot for the year and was lucky enough to capture 2 of them at once.  I had heard them many times but had not seen them.  Killdeers are a type of Plover and their name comes from their call.  They nest on the ground and where I saw them, made me wonder if there was a nest close by.  They like gravel areas, open fields, lawns and golf courses.

The Killdeer are back in the area.  I was able to photograph my first one on a walk last weekend.  This one was quite cooperative and stayed fairly close for several shots.  I love their red eyes.

I seem to be doing alternate day bird photos this week.  I have a lot to share as I have had several opportunities lately.  I saw this Killdeer on a walk this last week past a home near me.  I am guessing it has a nest somewhere near the end of their driveway.  I saw the owner out mowing the other day around the area so hope it is OK.

I was on a bike ride through some pretty rural areas of mostly farm fields on Sunday.  In the corner of one of them I spotted this Killdeer walking around.  I had brought my camera along so stopped and took some images.  It seemed very unconcerned that I was there and even went and sat on it's nest I am pretty sure so probably a female.  I am wondering if it is because I stayed on my bike and did not move around much while taking photos.  Thisis with a Zoom so I wasn't as close as it looks.

I was in Missouri last weekend.  While on a walk I happened across this Killdeer that must have had a nest very close by.  It was doing it's act of being injured on the road in front of me.  It was neat to see up close.  They build their nests in such silly places on the ground, how they survive I'll never know.  This act must work well with predators.

I was out walking Saturday by the big pond near where I live and photographing ducks and got a chance to view another type bird I enjoy watching but don't see often.  I watched and captured a pair of Killdeers moving along the edge of the pond looking for food.  I liked how this particular one came out with the reflection in the water.

I mentioned last week that I recently was able to see and capture a couple of birds that I like but are elusive to me usually.  This is the other and I captured this one in Minnesota.  I was in the car and it didn't seem to mind to much as I snapped a few shots of it, it was almost too close for the lens I had on.  This is a Killdeer, named for it's call, and they nest on the ground and will pretend to have a broken wing to draw predators or humans away from it's nest.  It was not doing that so I must not have been too close.  I love their eyes.

I usually don't get to see these birds up close but there was a family of them that must have had a nest around the restaurant we went to last weekend.  This is mama and baby Killdeer with baby blending into it's surroundings quite well.  good protection for it though I think this family was fairly safe where they were.  Dad was just off to the right keeping an eye on things as well.
